SMC routers are known to be one of the best routers out there. I have an SMC modem/router all in one box with my Hi-Speed Internet provider and it has been working very well. If you have an SMC router or any other wireless routers it is always best that you secure the wireless connection. If you don’t secure the wireless connection it will broadcast as an unsecured wireless network and people in the neighborhood can use your wireless internet to access the internet for free. To determine if your SMC wireless router has a password or not you would have to access the firmware inside of your router. Below I have included step by step instructions on how to secure your wireless router. I have also attached some pictures that will help you guide through the instructions. These instructions below will work on most of the SMC routers.

Make sure your SMC router is plugged in to your computer.

2. In your Internet Explorer’s address bar please type in the following 192.168.0.1.

3. You will get a SMC Log in page. For the user name type in “cusadmin” , and for the password type in “password” and then please click on “Log in”.

4. Now you will get SMC Networks page. Now click on the “Wireless” button on the left panel and click on “Channel and SSID”.

5. Now you should have a page and under SSID you should have a default name and it will say either WLAN or TI or default.

6. You have the option to change this if you would like. Basically now you are going to give your wireless network a name. Please type in a name in the SSID field.

7. You can leave the channel number on 11. After you have completed this click on the apply button. Now you should have a page and under SSID you should have a default name and it wills ay either WLAN or TI or default. You can leave the channel number on 11. After you have completed this click on the apply button.

8. Now click on the Encryption button and click on the security button and choose WPA-PSK. Now to type in a password. Your password must be at least 8 characters or longer and it is going to be entered in where it says WPA Passphrase. Type in a password that is longer then 8 characters and click on apply.

If you have completed these instructions properly your wireless network now should be secured and ready to be used.
